Alphonse Mucha: The Man, The Artist, The Legacy, with Marcus Mucha
@ The Richard H. Driehaus Museum
40 E Erie St, Chicago, IL 60611
Opening Wednesday, October 11th, from 7PM - 9PM
Czech artist Alphonse Mucha is widely regarded as the father of the Art Nouveau movement and achieved international fame in his lifetime, being hailed by the New York Daily News as “The greatest artist in the world.” However, after his death in Prague in 1939, his work gradually slipped out of sight after being suppressed, first by the German occupation forces and then by the Communist regime.
Marcus Mucha, the artist’s great-grandson, will tell the story of Alphonse Mucha’s life and work, as well as discuss the family’s efforts to preserve and promote Mucha’s artistic legacy in the years since his death.
Following the lecture, there will be a reception with light hors d’oeuvres and drinks as well as a chance to view the special exhibition, L’Affichomania: The Passion for French Posters ( February 11, 2017–January 7, 2018) http://www.driehausmuseum.org/laffichomania
