Join us for a free screening of four short films by women of color writers and a Q & A panel with the writers moderated by Open TV’s Aymar Jean Christian. The films are: Rashida KhanBey’s Let Go & Let God; Coquie Hughes’ docu-short Granny Ballers –The Story Behind It All; Diana Quinones Rivera’s Darling Shear; and the pilot episode of M Shelly Conner’s comedy web series Quare Life.
Let Go & Let God is dedicated to people who are struggling with the grips of depression and wondering if there is a way out. In Let Go and Let God she finds her release through dance. The movement stirs her soul to the point where it brings her back to life and she makes a commitment to live again, to take back her power and move forward walking in the joy that God intended her to have for her life. Granny Ballers — The Story Behind It All is a short film about Chicago filmmaker CoquieHughes’ 16+ year journey to adapt. her 2001 screenplay Granny Ballers into a TV series. (Coquie Hughes)
Darling Shear is a docu-series that follows dancer/choreographer extraordinaire Darling Squire as she works on a new and exciting dance piece for six dancers at Links Hall, Chicago. Through interviews, rehearsals and performances, “Darling Shear” reveals the voice of an evolving artistic landscape in the context of Chicago’s vibrant multicultural community. Quare Life web series pilot episode: When MICHELLE JONES finds herself unemployed, heartbroken and without a home, she must rely on close friends and family for support. The series follows Michelle and her close-knit queer friends as they navigate relationships, family and the racial/gender/social politics of Chicago’s southside. (M Shelly Conner)

Open TV (beta) is a Chicago-based platform for queer and intersectional television, currently a research project by Dr. Aymar Jean Christian, assistant professor of communication at Northwestern University. We incubate art and artists commercial television studios and networks cannot develop consistently. We are a project under non-profits helping artists produce and exhibit their work in Chicago and online.
