the baby gap is an installation piece by Danny Volk, incorporating the work of Hannah Givler, Laura Robbins Maidens, Danielle Rosen, and Casey Smallwood. Volk collaborates (with varying degrees of intimacy and artistic input) with 4 cisgendered female artists to ponder the question, “Why does an artist decide to get pregnant in our time?” Volk sets a retail environment as the stage for the artists’ responses which include photography, sculpture, text, music, and scent. Curation, surrogacy, authorship, and collaboration implode as the 5 artists struggle under the complex and emotional weight of the project’s thesis.

A lookbook authored by Patricia Rose will accompany the work.
