Indigeneity, Gender, and Sexualities
@ Newberry Library
60 W Walton St, Chicago, IL 60610
Opening Friday, May 26th, from 10AM - 3PM
This symposium highlights indigenous concepts of identity and sexuality that surpass standard contemporary gender binaries. American Indian and other indigenous communities have historically celebrated multiple gender identifications, including two-spirit peoples, as well as the unique roles that women and men contribute to warrior societies, political leadership, and home life.
The symposium will feature preeminent scholars, artists, and local community members, who will explore artistic and other cultural expressions of this powerful, unique indigenous history.
