Pete Hillstrom: Sublands
@ TCC Chicago
2547 W. North Ave., Chicago, IL, 60647
Opening Friday, April 14th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, April 23rd
Sublands presents work made over the past 3 years by artist Pete Hillstrom. The multimedia body of work centers on representations of Midwestern Americana with a suburban edge. They touch upon themes like consumption, conformity, aggression and banality while simultaneously serving as an homage to the conflicted nostalgia one feels for a culture to which one is born into. Darkly humorous, the works emphasize the duality that lies between the glossy veneer and the unsettling characteristics revealed underneath this American construct.
Pete Hillstrom is an artist from southwest suburban Chicagoland. He received a BFA with an emphasis in drawing from SAIC and went on to study illustration at the University of Arts London. Balancing the observational and the illusory, he works across multiple mediums. This is his first solo exhibition.
