Sivan Cohen Elias
Born in Jerusalem, Sivan Cohen Elias sees herself as an interdisciplinary composer. In her work she investigates the boundaries and possibilities of integrating different art forms into a unified medium. Movement, sound, space and visual objects are sewn within themes corresponding with the failure and limitations of systems and bodies.

Ms. Cohen Elias is currently a doctoral candidate and a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University under the guidance of composers and professors Chaya Czernowin and Hans Tutschku. In 2012, Ms. Cohen Elias relocated to Germany for an 11-month fellowship at the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart. In 2007, she attended the postgraduate program at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. She holds a master’s of music with high distinctions from Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University, where she studied with composer Ruben Seroussi. Ms. Cohen Elias has participated in lessons and master classes with composers such as Brian Ferneyhough, Georges Aperghis, Pierluigi Billone, Steven Kazuo Takasugi, John Luther Adams and Rebecca Saunders, among others.

Chicago Academy for the Arts, New Music Ensemble
The CAA New Music Ensemble is comprised of five emerging composer-performers currently studying music at the Chicago Academy for the Arts. These young artists create new works by composing collaboratively and performing together, focusing on works which utilize graphic scores, electronic components, games and extended techniques.

Under the leadership of Jesse Langen, the CAA New Music Ensemble has become an essential presence in Chicago’s exciting new music scene. The group has performed with Eighth Blackbird at the Museum of Contemporary Art and participated in the inaugural Ear Taxi Festival this past fall. Last summer many members of the ensemble traveled to Germany to participate in the International Music Courses for New Music at Darmstadt, where they worked collaboratively with Cologne-based Studio Musikfabrik. CAA New Music Ensemble members regularly work with world-class composers and artists, including Danny Clay, Jenna Lyle, Sivan Cohen Elias, Ray Evanoff, Pablo Santiago Chin, Fredrick Gifford, Eliza Brown, Peter Veale, Mabel Kwan, Bethany Younge and Shawn Lucas.
