Addington Gallery cordially invites you to an evening of art and refreshments, featuring an artists’ conversation with Kathleen Waterloo, Jeffrey Hirst, and Helen Dannelly about the history of their work, and the use of encaustic techniques in their current art practice.

Waterloo, Hirst, and Dannelly are all leading artists who work with the ancient technique known as encaustic, and are currently part of the exhibition”Lucent Ventures” currently on view at Addington Gallery, 704 N Wells, Chicago IL. They will be discussing the evolution of their work, and what led them to begin working in this fascinating medium which involves the use of molten wax and pigment, and has ancient roots reaching back over 2000 years in Egypt.

The three artists, all currently living and working in Chicago, will talk about how they have adapted the technique and applied it to their specific vision of contemporary painting, and will discuss specific techniques and unusual approaches to the medium.

We hope you can take this opportunity to view a variety of pieces created with different encaustic techniques, and hear some of the country’s leading practitioners candidly discuss their work and careers.
