Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls is a two man group show featuring new paintings and drawings by Chicago artists Tim Anderson and Matthew Schommer.
Tim Andersons paintings are about people and events that have come into his world through reading, research and coincidence. The paintings are part of an exploration of human drama — all of them. Not so much about good and evil, but the gray spaces in between. To get this down in paint is to trace a trajectory through a fascination and a compulsive need to know. It is a way of laying it all out ; where the process of making the marks is as equally important as the end result.

Evoking a feeling of hazy nostalgia, Matthew Schommer’s art creates an atmosphere reminiscent of elusive, lingering dreams. Iconic imagery and found photographs serve as a springboard to explore mankind’s foggy past and uncertain future. With watercolor and acrylic paints and layers upon layers of graphite, his work prompts the viewer to analyze the human condition and society at large.
