Art + Value Conversations Planning Potluck
@ Corner
2912 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
Opening Friday, July 29th, from 6PM - 8PM
On view through Saturday, November 19th
Artists, art-administrators, art-supporters,
Do you feel haunted by the specter of the “starving artist”?
Do you feel cheated out of stability, self-confidence, control by a sense of discord between “art and capitalism”?
Do you have trouble talking about money?
During November 12 – 19, Corner and Hume are partnering with other local artist-run spaces to present the Art + Value Conversations. This series of events will address different aspects of how artists and artistic labor are valued in Chicago today. We hope to develop tools for Chicago artists to speak more confidently about the ways in which their work is valued, forge productive spaces for critical reflection and concrete skill-sharing, and become tenacious advocates for sustainable working conditions.
At this planning potluck, we are inviting anyone invested in these questions to come together to begin the conversation. We want to hear what concerns about art + value are at the top of your mind.
Bring a friend, bring some food, bring your grievances, questions, and ideas.
