Abandoned practices: 2016 culminating performances
@ SAIC Performance
280 S Columbus Dr, Chicago, Illinois 60603
Opening Wednesday, July 27th, from 1PM - 4PM
17 participants of the three-week summer course devoted to abandoned practices and endangered uses have been engaged in research, performance, installation, and writing projects, with teachers Matthew Goulish, Lin Hixson, and Mark Jeffery, teaching assistant Allen Conkle. This year’s visiting scholars were Anthony Romero and Jane Bennett.
You are invited to attend presentations on Wednesday, July 27 @ 1PM, Columbus Building, Room 112, devised in response to the form of the Chautauqua Assembly, a traveling rural adult education institution, the popularity of which peaked in the late 1800s. Sharing the theme of useful knowledge, the three 15-18 minute presentations each weave a series of strictly timed original responses to subjects such as “Buzzing Radios” and “Ortolan Songbirds” in alternating presentational modes of expert demonstration, traveling exhibition, fashion yourself, non-human, and entertainment performance.
An informal reception will follow.
