Comfort Society is proud to present Marc Fischer as part of our weekly Comfort Society lecture series. Marc will be speaking on his project Hardcore Architecture.
Hardcore Architecture explores the relationship between the architecture of living spaces and the history of underground American hardcore bands in the 1980s. Hardcore Architecture uses Google Street View, combined with contact addresses from demo and record reviews published in the magazine MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL, to capture photos of the homes associated with 1980s bands. Since the project began in 2014, over 500 band-related homes have been included on the website http://hardcorearchitecture.tumblr.com/
Hardcore Architecture is a project of Marc Fischer and his initiative Public Collectors. For this lecture, Fischer will detail the varied concerns and origins of this project and highlight the many homes of bands located throughout Chicago. Publications made by Fischer and Public Collectors will also be presented and available for purchase. Hardcore Architecture has been the subject of interviews and articles in Pitchfork, Noisey, Art News, Hyperallergic, The Seen, and more. Public Collectors was included in the 2014 Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art, with a project devoted to the late Chicago-based activist and music documentarian Malachi Ritscher.
Comfort Society is a weekly lecture series held Sundays at 1 during the Logan Square Farmer’s Market. Lecture topics range from the useful to the unexpected. Sponsored by Intelligentsia Coffee.
