Dialogues, re\Visioned
@ Cobalt Studio
1950 W 21st St, Chicago IL 60608
Opening Friday, May 6th, from 5PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, May 15th
Five emerging art therapists present their art-based theses investigating notions of connection in art therapy. Diverse media explorations – including fibers, quilting, drawing, and installation – guide each artist in navigating hybrid dialogues surrounding identity, language, relationships, material memory, and therapeutic alliance. In Dialogues, re\Visioned, art functions as a uniting fiber that transforms personal narrative, professional identity, and community connection.
Judith Lopez, Angela Scalisi, Naimah Thomas, Cassie Hamrick, and Jonathan Monroe-Cook are graduating students from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Master of Art in Art Therapy program. The MAAT program explores relationships between life experiences and artmaking and seeks to prepare graduates for careers helping people gain or recover intellectual and emotional clarity, equilibrium, and power through artistic expression.
Opening Reception: Friday, May 6, 2016, 5-10pm (Artist Talks 6-7pm)
