Just beneath the surface, a haven. Found in the dank and stale air, in the cobwebs, and in the shadows of a lost and forgotten place.
A mirage. Trans Separatist Island. A sovereign land created by castaways and camouflaged. A trap door.
Here is a paradise.
The Island is curated by Kate Bowen and presented by The Learning Machine in partnership with ACRE.
An associated work, Cargo Island (trans separatism, a tourist trade), is currently on view in the exhibition Pearly Foam at David Weinberg Gallery.
This event is free and open to the public.
The Learning Machine is a gallery and venue, run by a group of multidisciplinary artists, and located in the heart of Bridgeport at 3145 Morgan St, Chicago,Il 60608. By offering a space for emerging and under-represented artists to present their work, LM aims to foster an environment that allows for the sharing of ideas and information through workshops and discussion groups.
