@ The Franklin

Opening Saturday, December 12th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Saturday, January 23rd
Inspired by a bit of exchange with participating artist Cody Tumblin, INSIDE\WITHIN brings together three other artists that have been interviewed for the site for an exhibition at THE FRANKLIN that will explore anti-precious materials. Included works are produced from materials that are meant to be tossed around or aside—pieces that can be left around the studio, hastily crammed into the back of a van, or left out in the rain. Due to the seasonal timing of the exhibition and its location outdoors, the pieces are forced to adhere to being weathered, becoming altered through their slow degradation or complete destruction.
Four artists make up the exhibition, a nod to the four-post-a-month habit of the online publication that explores the practices of Chicago’s artists within their creative spaces. Artists include Chelsea Culp, Maddie Reyna, Cody Tumblin, and Joseph Rynkiewicz.
INSIDE\WITHIN was in founded in 2013 as a constantly updating web archive devoted to physically exploring and digitally exposing the creative spaces and processes of Chicago’s emerging and established artists. The platform continues to publish four artist interviews a month, showcasing the spaces of local artists regardless of gallery representation or length of career. INSIDE\WITHIN was a 2014 awardee of the Propeller Fund, a joint administered grant from Threewalls and Gallery 400 at The University of Illinois at Chicago.
