A couple of weeks ago, while sorting through a box I had yet to unpack, I come across a stack of papers I chose to hold onto a few years ago. After deciding to look at each item in the pile, I find myself largely disappointed. Most of it was recognizable, or at least easy to identify after a brief memory jog. I expected more.
A loose piece of paper near the bottom, however, catches me off guard.
think about the people who have been ___________ several hours a day for over a decade
The text is printed in choppy blue ink in the center of the page. There’s a date in the upper right hand corner– November 2013– and I could make out several fingerprints along the side of the paper after tilting the sheet toward the light. That I don’t remember anything about this becomes a secondary matter; why didn’t you tell me about that?
