Mongerson Gallery is pleased to announce “Far Out Females: Mid-Century Chicago Surrealism”, an exhibition surveying the 1930 to 1960 works of notable
Midwestern surrealists Gertrude Abercrombie, Macena Barton, and Julia Thecla.
The preliminary show in the galleryâs Chicago Modern exhibition series, “Far Out Females” features essays by
esteemed curators Dr. Robert Cozzolino and Dr. Ilene Fort.
Currently the Senior Curator of Modern Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Cozzolino is
co-editor of an upcoming Chicago Art History survey printed through University of Chicago Press. Dr. Ilene Fort â Senior Curator of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art â is the author and curator of In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the
United States.
The public is invited to an opening reception on Friday, September 18th from 5 to 8pm at the gallery in the John Hancock building, 875 N Michigan Avenue, Suite 2520, Chicago, IL 60611. The event will be running concurrently with EXPO Chicago, as a part of the Art After Hours program.
The exhibition will be on view at Mongerson Gallery from September 19 â November 25, 2015 during gallery hours. Accompanying the exhibition will be an illustrated catalogue available in digital and print versions. Please inquire for additional information.
