ANDREW RAFACZ is pleased to announce modulations, a solo exhibition of new work by Abdolreza Aminlari in Gallery Two.
Chicago, IL, September 12, 2015– ANDREW RAFACZ begins the fall season with modulations, a solo exhibition of sewn works on paper by Abdolreza Aminlari. The exhibition continues through Saturday, October 31, 2015.
Aminlari uses gold and colored thread to draw on and into paper, exploring both physical and personal psychological space. Concerned with the possibilities of repetition and iteration that are historically fundamental to the act of sewing, his unique designs reference geometry, architecture, and quilt making. Utilizing the rigidity of patterning but also engaged in an improvisatory practice commensurate with freehand drawing, the results are abstracted forms, retaining their originally conceived formal structures but also resonating with the poetic capacity of something uniquely born from the mind and hand.
ABDOLREZA AMINLARI (Iranian, b 1979) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his BFA from the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI in 2002. Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include Walls and Landscapes, Jackie Klempay, Brooklyn, NY and Abdolreza Aminlari and Benjamin King, Longhouse Projects, New York, NY. He was included in Formal Relations, curated by Kamrooz Aram and Murtaza Vali, Taymour Grahne, New York, NY in July 2015.
