Artists: Mike Calway-Fagen, Farrah Emami, Kirk Faber, Elliot Mickleburgh, and Kira Scerbin

Sunday Project is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition Tentatively Titled, a group exhibition comprised of the work of five emerging artists who turn the lens directly on themselves. In a world ever-more dominated by social media, and virtual existence, these works serve as a reminder of what it means to be a physical self. The work is both poetic and pathetic, attempting to overcome the perceived banality of the artists’ daily lives. These artists deal with issues as disparate as living with your parents as an adult to what it means to be in love, transforming experience into myth and hyperbole.

Mike Calway-Fagen hails from Nashville, Tennessee and received a BFA from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and an MFA from the University of California in San Diego. His sculptures, videos and collages show his deep ties to his roots and an unabashed desire to understand questions around human worth and insignificance. He was most recently a Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA and previously attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has received awards from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and The Hamiltonian Fellowship. Mike has exhibited in solo and group shows at museums, galleries, and project spaces here in the states and abroad including LAXART (Los Angeles, CA), Mixed Greens (New York, NY), Vox Populi (Philadelphia, PA), Gazelli Art House (London, UK) and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia. Mike is currently a Visiting Professor at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Farrah Emami lives and works in San Diego, CA where she received her BA’s in both Visual Art and Art History from the University of California in San Diego. Farrah’s work explores her changing relationship with her parents and the home she grew up in due to the frustration and claustrophobia of living at home for 25 years straight. She has exhibited her work in museums and galleries throughout Southern California. Most recently her work was exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art.

Kirk Faber lives and works in Chicago, IL. Originally from Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Faber has exhibited with a handful of Chicago art venues including the Hyde Park Art Center, Lodos Contemporáneo, Autumn Space and Noble and Superior Projects. Faber has also exhibited work by emerging and established local artists in his own living room from 2010 until the end of 2013 as part of a project simply known as Kirk’s Apartment.

Born in Seattle, Elliott Mickleburgh is an artist and writer currently based in Chicago. In 2013, he received a BFA with Liberal Arts Thesis from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Mickleburgh’s work endeavors to reinsert a humanist subjectivity and affect into the cultural landscape of postmodernity and [new] media. His art has been exhibited throughout the United States and his most recent writing has been published by the online forum Notes on Metamodernism.

Kira Scerbin is a poet/painter painter/poet born in Cleveland Ohio. She is currently living and working in Chicago, IL where she will be receiving her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago this coming spring, 2014. Kira has worked with local art venues such as Lodos Contemporáneo, Alcatraz Chicago, and Kirks Apartment.
