A three-part reading series featuring artists, poets, and writers whose work complements “Ghost Nature,” a group exhibition at Gallery 400 based around the strangeness of the natural world.

Laurie Palmer is an artist, writer, and educator. Her work is concerned with social and environmental justice, amplifying access to shared resources, and exploring matter’s active nature. Palmer reads “Silicon” from her forthcoming book, “In the Aura of a Hole: Exploring Material Extraction Sites,” which is also reprinted in the catalogue for “Ghost Nature.” Palmer has been a member of the art collective Haha for twenty years and views collaboration as an ongoing and central component of her practice. Recent projects include “Still Yet Else Further Again…,” a solo exhibition at threewalls Gallery, Chicago, and “Chicago Torture Justice Memorials,” an ongoing collaborative project first exhibited at Sullivan Galleries, Chicago. Palmer has published two project-based books: “3 Acres on the Lake: DuSable Park Proposal Project,” documenting a collaborative public project that she initiated, and “With Love from Haha,” documenting twenty years of Haha’s site-based work (both published by University of Chicago Press). Palmer teaches sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
