Rusty Shackleford presents Dream Feeder, a new series of prints, paintings and arrangements. Inspired by the dated grain and colors of found images, Shackleford uses pages from books and magazines as backgrounds for his recent scanner-based experiments with color, light, paint and discard.
Dream House is an exhibition of Katie Torn’s hyperrealistic digital prints and video work. Torn’s work employs 3D computer software used for Hollywood films and commercials to create virtual sculptures that reflect her observations on American consumerism, technology, and its impact on the body. Inspired by Cubism and Futurism, art movements that strived to find new ways to express life in the industrial age, Torn’s use of digital technologies channels life in an age where interacting in a virtual space is an everyday activity.
Born in Montgomery, Al in 1978, Shackleford received his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2004. He has been a resident at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Vermont Studio Center and Harold Arts. His work has been reviewed in Modern Painters, Beautiful Decay, Flavorpill, NewCity and Art Fag City. Other upcoming shows include a solo exhibition at Cindy Rucker Gallery in NYC and Art Untitled in Miami, FL.
Torn is a digital media artist and instructor living in New York City. She studied at Hunter College and received her MFA in Film, Video and Animation from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has shown at MOCA LA, Newman Popiashvili Gallery, Union Docs, Internet Week New York, Interstate Gallery, and Platform Gallery in New York City. She has also performed at VIA Music and New Media Festival in Pittsburgh, and, Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. She is currently a Fellow at Eyebeam art and technology center and an adjunct professor at Pratt.
