CHIME IN Evening Reception with Theaster Gates

The Garfield Park Conservatory opens its indoor and outdoor grounds to the public on this evening, featuring spoken word, poet, sound, and performance artists with West Side roots. Performers and activities for this evening include:
• Theaster Gates, speaking on artistic practice, public art, resourcefulness, and community engagement
•Marvin Tate, poet and singer
•Awthentik, spoken word artist
•David Houston, Chicago West Community Center
•Krystele Matthews, body paint artist, stenciling Conservatory leaf patterns on visitors so they can BLEND IN to the surroundings and the evening
In addition to the people-powered sound of this evening, exploration of the outdoor WIND CHIME exhibit highlights the wind powered sound in the trees of the Conservatory’s outdoor grounds as interpreted by local East Garfield Park and other west side artists.
