Oct 12th 2013

As part of the exhibition “Unfurling: Five Explorations in Art, Activism, and Archiving” at the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry.

On October 12, 2013 the artistic/curatorial collaborative, Extinct Entities, will present three newly commissioned performances by Alexandria Eregbu, Tomeka Reid, and Baraka de Soleil. Each artist was invited to create a new work that engages with the history of the Affro-Arts Theater—a dynamic South Side performance venue established by Kelan Phil Cohran in 1967 that was shuttered at the insistence of the city in 1968. Eregbu, Reid, and de Soleil will premier these original works as part of the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry’s inaugural exhibition in the new Midway Studios exhibition space.

Extinct Entities is a collaborative project by Erin Nixon, Anthony Romero, and Anthony Stepter that investigates possibilities for reengaging with art spaces that no longer exist.A free publication produced in collaboration with Brandon Alvendia will be available throughout the exhibition run.
