The Program: Tom Humphreys/Laure Prouvost
@ CourtneyBlades
1324 W Grand Ave. Chicago, IL 60642
Opening Friday, September 6th, from 6PM - 9pM
On view through Thursday, September 19th
The Program is a series of rotating two-week exhibitions, two of which will occur at CourtneyBlades. The Program is conceived of as a transient gallery that penetrates local scenes with a gathering of international works and ideas. Like many gallery programs, there is no one concept, narrative, or thread that links the different occurrences of The Program together. Through its repetition, it provides the audiences with the opportunity to explore the visual and conceptual interworking of an international network with Michael Scott Hall at its hub. The Program is an autonomous plug-in, international in focus, while still fantasizing about the local.
Michael Scott Hall founded Chicago Project Room (1996-2002) in Chicago and later in Los Angeles. Hall moved to Vienna in 2003 and founded his eponymous gallery (2003-2008). Since 2008, Hall has worked as an independent curator.
London-based Artist and Curator Tom Humphreys’ (b. 1972) work has recently been shown at Portikus (Frankfurt), Christian Andersen (Copenhagen), Bortolami Gallery (New York), Tomorrow (Toronto), What Pipeline (Detroit) with Lucie Stahl and Pro Choice (Vienna). Humphreys also founded and operated Flaca, a London project space dedicated to facilitating group, collaborative, and solo exhibitions by young international artists that ran from 2003-2007.
Laure Prouvost (b. 1978) was born in Lille, France. Currently living and working in London, She has collaborated with Humphreys on several exhibitions and book projects. She has exhibited extensively throughout the UK. Her recent solo exhibitions include the Morra Greco Foundation (Naples, IT), Whitechapel Gallery, Tate Britain, MOT International and Frieze Projects all in London. Prouvost was a Turner-Prize nominee in 2013.
