George Blaha: Now Appearing
@ Firecat Projects
2124 N. Damen
Opening Friday, September 27th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Sunday, October 20th
CHICAGO, IL – Firecat Projects will be presenting
Now Appearing: Nw Wks by digital artist George Blaha
on Friday, September 27 from 7-10PM.
Utilizing a combination of 3D graphics modeling programs, Photoshop and Illustrator, Blaha makes virtual art works which are then rendered as high resolution inkjet prints mounted in such a way as to give the impression of floating icons on a computer desktop.
Blaha has a strong background in painting and sculpture; then 15 years ago he incorporated computer based imaging into his practice. Unfettered by the limitations of materials and their properties, Blaha’s often quirky and humorous work fashions a universe that encompasses Buddhist thought, Sacred Geometry, mysticism, science fiction and world art, ancient to contemporary.
In Now Appearing; Nw Wrks, Blaha explores the pixel as both object and idea. In giving the pixel center stage, he draws attention to the threshold between things coming together/ falling apart, resolved/unresolved. Normally micro-sized pixels are enlarged to the point where they take on appearances and meaning outside their usual function, as exemplified by Blaha’s piece Recliner.
Firecat’s doors will open at 7PM with food and hors d’oeuvres provided by Red Door. There will be an
option to purchase wine or beer, provided by 3 Floyds Brewing and Red & White Wines Chicago.
