CHICAGO, Ill. (July 19, 2012) – Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project is continuing its tour of the United States with the second stop of its four-city national tour in Chicago. Following an action-packed Los Angeles launch in April, the program will arrive in Chicago with a gallery reveal event on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Chicago Urban Art Society (CUAS). During the showcase, 20 local emerging artists will participate in an innovative art creation platform that will culminate in the opportunity for three finalists to showcase their work at a Miami art fair held during the 2012 Art Basel season.
Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project (Chicago) will feature work from some of the city’s most innovative contemporary artists. The chosen artists will use a canvas-wrapped cooler as a template and will personalize it with their own special brand of art work. During the artist production days on Sunday, July 22, and Monday, July 23, artists will create their specially branded works at the Chicago Urban Art Society (CUAS), Chicago’s premiere exhibition and creative use space.
A celebrity-hosted curatorial panel consisting of three art connoisseurs will be on hand to judge the pieces and ultimately choose the winner. The celebrity panel includes Candida Alvarez, an alumni of the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture and artist with pieces that have been featured across the world, Robyn Farrell, a writer and curator who has contributed to the success of shows throughout the nation and was recently recognized for her contribution to the Chicago Artist’s Coalition and Daria Brit Shapiro, a well-known writer and curator currently serving as the cultural engineer for the internationally renowned SCOPE Art Show. The carefully chosen celebrity curatorial panel, along with a social media platform that allows arts patrons to participate in a democratized voting system, will round out the program. The process will conclude with a blowout gallery celebration on Thursday, July 26, revealing the three Chicago artists whose work received the most votes. The arts ambassadors will be awarded an all-expense paid trip to Miami during Art Basel 2012 to participate in a Red Bull Curates group show.
