Switzerland-based designer Dafi Kühne will discuss his innovative approaches to design through letterpress printing, drawing upon his seminal project Wood Type-Now! and works currently on view at the Center for Book and paper Arts.

Dafi Kühne is a graduate of Zurich University of the Arts. Kühne’s interest in letterpress grew out of an internship at Hatch Showprint in Nashville, one of the oldest and largest woodtype poster-print-shops in the United States. Kühne’s thesis Woodtype-Now! a dissertation featuring 100 pages of interviews, explored current possibilities for and intersections between letterpress and graphic design. The research resulted in a magazine as well as an online database featuring examples of techniques Kühne developed to specifically reveal the potential for letterpress and graphic design. Today he works as a full-time graphic designer and letterpress printmaker at his studio babyinktwice. He mainly does commercial letterpress poster jobs, postcards, flyers, brochures & magazines for music, art, theater and film projects.

Held in association with “Wood Type, Evolved: Experimental Letterpress & Relief Printing in the 21st Century”
