A Coupling
@ HungryMan Gallery
2135 N Rockwell St, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Saturday, February 12th, from 6PM - 11PM
On view through Sunday, March 20th
Consisting of four works completed by four different artist couples, the show is both an exhibition and an experiment in collaboration.
“As a couple, there is a level of co-dependence and compromise that exists in day-to-day life; and as a curator I am exploring how these issues can present themselves in art. The participating pairs are not only in different stages of their artistic practices but vary in range of time committed to each other and the nature of the relationship. Each couple set out to collaborate on a piece; to create an artwork that is not the work of an individual but a melding of the couple’s styles and conceptual approach. It exists as an investigation of the ‘couple,’ specifically the artmaking couple, and the resulting artwork is evidence of both conceptual and formal compromise.”
Work by Frank Piatek and Judith Geichman; Dana Degiulio and Molly Zuckerman-Hartung; Samantha Bittman and Mike Nudelman; and Amber Thomas and Josh Reames.
Curated by Josh Reames.
