Marcy, a resident of the Edgewater community has been a prolific figure in the Emerging Art scene in the area for years. She currently runs a successful traveling exhibit “Random Acts of Gallery”. Created by artists, Random Acts of Gallery gives Chicago artists more opportunities to have their work seen by utilizing blank walls in unexpected places. Marcy also teaches art classes at Bottle & Bottega Evanston location. Marcy also actively curates at Morpho Gallery.

About Marcy
Born and raised (mostly) in Alton, Illinois, Marcy moved to Chicago in 2001 and graduated with her BFA from SAIC in 2003. Being from a small town, it was difficult to focus with the visual noise and bombardment of people, ideas, and commercialism. A mentor told her to “draw what’s inside you.” What started with tiny doodles of knots evolved into biomorphic abstract shapes and narratives referencing nature and scientific ideas. She found her voice by directing her focus inward to escape the noise.

About the Exhibition
Her new work focuses on the idea of using an object or person to open up a portal and escape to another reality, and in some cases, face the realities we cannot escape from. When you look through a mirror long enough, you are forced to look deep inside yourself and confront your own mortality. It can be downright scary. Sometimes a conversation with a stranger can open the mind to another world, their world. When you walk through a threshold, you experience a different space with its own energy. Windows give us a view into another world, and doors and souls give us an entrance. She paints on antique objects with memories and energy already attached to them to explore this idea.

The post Marcy Kennedy Anderson first appeared on The Visualist.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">67124</post-id>
