Back Alley Jazz is a free community event led by Chicago artists Fo Wilson and Norman Teague, in collaboration with the Hyde Park Jazz Festival, the Hyde Park Art Center and South Shore residents.

This one day event presents musicians, artists, and designers in garages and alleys in the South Shore neighborhood, creating a contemporary neighborhood happening that builds on and celebrates Chicago’s history of the neighborhood jam, as inspired by the original Jazz in the Alley events.

For more information visit hydeparkjazzfestival.org/back-alley-jazz

Back Alley Jazz will kick off at 2pm with an opening procession led by our Grand Marshall Jimmy Ellis, original co-founder of Jazz in the Alley.

The rest of the day is structured around four performances in host yards along S. Paxton. Between happenings guests are invited to hang out in the picnic area and enjoy food provided by Robinson No.1 Ribs, brush up on their South Shore jazz history in the “Learning Lab” curated by a group of School of the Art Institute students, participate in all-ages activities organized by the Hyde Park Art Center, or interact with the installations at each of the sites.
