										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Experience Live Magazine Show, the concluding celebration of the Lit &amp; Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art. Each year, the Lit &amp; Luz program supports the creation of new collaborative artworks between writers, visual artists, and musicians from Chicago and Mexico City. In the months leading up to the festival, teams of participating artists from the two cities work remotely to co-create a performance incorporating their respective mediums. The pieces are presented during the festival in both Spanish and English and they often explore the relationship between the languages, art forms, and cultures of the United States and Mexico.</p>

<p>This program is organized in partnership with Sarah Dodson of Lit &amp; Luz and Curator of Public Programs January Parkos Arnall, Assistant Curator of Public Programs Christy LeMaster, and Partnerships and Engagement Program Liaison Gibran Villalobos.</p>

<p>Lit &amp; Luz Festival of Language, Literature, and Art<br />
Lit &amp; Luz Festival is a one-of-a-kind series of events featuring renowned authors and visual artists from Chicago and Mexico in cultural exchange and conversation. This series of readings, conversations, artist talks, and performances&acirc;&#128;&#148;which culminates in a Live Magazine Finale. The festival highlights new translations and artistic collaborations and showcases some of the most innovative contemporary writers and artists from both countries.<br />

<p>Juli&Atilde;&iexcl;n Herbert<br />
Juli&Atilde;&iexcl;n Herbert (b. 1971, Mexico) is a writer, musician, and distinguished professor who has won many prizes in his career as a novelist such as the Premio Nacional de Literatura Gilberto Owen in 2003, the Premio Ja&Atilde;&copy;n de Novela In&Atilde;&copy;dita 2011 for Canci&Atilde;&sup3;n de tumba (an elegy for his mother, translated and published in 2018 by Graywolf Press as Tomb Song) and the Premio de Novela Elena Poniatowska in 2012. He studied Spanish Literature at the Universidad Aut&Atilde;&sup3;noma de Coahuila. His first novel, Un mundo infiel, was released in 2004 after trying his luck with four collections of poetry.</p>
<p>Fernanda Melchor<br />
Fernanda Melchor (b. 1982, Veracruz, Mexico) is the author of the novels Falsa liebre (Almad&Atilde;&shy;a, 2013) and Temporada de huracanes (Random House Literature, 2017), and the book of essays Aqu&Atilde;&shy; no es Miami (Literature Random House, 2018). She is also a journalist who graduated from the Universidad Veracruzana, holds a Masters in Aesthetics and Art from the Autonomous University of Puebla, and has a specialization in political science from the Institut D&#8217;&Atilde;&#137;tudes Politiques in Rennes, France. Her most recent novel, Temporada de huracanes, was considered by various media as the best Mexican novel of 2017 and is being translated into more than seven languages.
