TAKE ME SERIOUS: Teen Art Exhibition
April 26–May 16, 2019
Curated by the Teen Arts Council
Arts + Public Life Education Program
Opening Reception: Friday, April 26, 6:00-8:00 PM
In the 2019 “Take Me Serious” Teen Arts Exhibition, Chicago’s very own up-and-coming young artists will be highlighted, celebrated, and validated. This showcase, curated by Arts + Public Life’s Teen Arts Council (TAC), will display young artists with talent, strong voices, and originality. The desire to create this show arose from the TAC’s mission to showcase the beauty hidden in our city’s streets. Our neighborhoods are bursting with talent. In today’s culture, teens are often dismissed with claims of immaturity and inexperience. Our teens have continuously been denied their voices. They deserve them. Take them serious.
_____________
Teen Arts Council is a group of ten to fifteen student leaders, led by instructor Dionne Victoria, who collaborate with the Arts + Public Life initiative to develop creative skills, leadership experience, and opportunities for their peers to engage with the arts. The council members work with university staff and local partners to develop projects at the intersection of arts administration and community engagement.
