Speculative Fashion: building new worlds through what we wear
@ No Nation - Art Gallery and Tangential Unspace Lab
1542 N Milwaukee Ave, 2nd floor, Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Saturday, February 9th, from 2PM - 4PM
A workshop from Xiili Rose + Payal Kumar
Speculative fashion is an active practice of reimagining our dress as a tool of radical expression, resistance, and future building. After looking at historical and present-day examples of speculative fashion, we will collaboratively construct an imaginative garment that confronts issues facing our communities right now.
The workshop will take two hours. Materials will be provided.
This event is free and does not cost money; we + NoNation ask that people exchange a poem and or a butt print at the entrance!
The space is not fully accessible — the workshop is located up a flight of stairs — but accommodations have been made before; let us know what you need to be comfortable in the space and we will do our best to make it happen.
We are cultivating an anti-oppressive space and we believe in and practice accountability.
