Eliel Sherman Storey: The Renegade Collaboration
@ Elastic Arts
3429 W Diversey #208, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Saturday, November 24th, from 9PM - 12AM
Eliel Sherman Storey, an idiosyncratic artist that has established his presence or lack thereof on his own terms. After years of living in Germany and performing throughout Europe, Eliel returned to his home town of Chicago and founded “Transition East Studio” and through his engineering ability finds him currently touring with the Art Ensemble Of Chicago as their technical and sound engineer. This event will bring both elements together. This will be a live recording of Eliel’s musical concepts.
For one set only on November 24, “The Renegade Collaboration” comes to the Elastic Arts performance space, featuring Ari Brown saxophone and piano, Harrison Bankhead acoustic bass, Vincent Davis drums and Tony Carpenter percussions.
Eliel Sherman Storey sees himself more as a cultural warrior who happens to study the saxophone, and as the result has developed a very personal approach to the saxophone, and his compositions speak to the disenfranchisement of the African diaspora. His vocabulary often punctuated by long deliberate lines that resolves unexpectedly. This version of his band, “THE RENEGADE COLLABORATION” consists of Chicago’s iconic saxophone player, Ari Brown who will also display profound piano skills along with Harrison Bankhead on acoustic bass, hard driving Vincent Davis on drums and the artistic approach to percussion and miscellaneous instruments of Tony Carpenter. They will perform one set only on Saturday, November 24 at 9pm.
