Oct 5th 2018

Join us to celebrate The Big Draw Festival throughout October. Discover new ways to tell a story with artists Langston Allston and Kevin Coval. They’ll discuss their chapbook, Milwaukee Avenue, then guide you through creative exercises using iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. You’ll head outside to create your own story by observing people, taking photos, and writing down the things that inspire you.

Langston Allston uses paintings and murals to explore hidden histories. His recent project focuses on people and the places they live, which he researched with the National Public Housing Museum in Chicago.

Kevin Coval is the author of 10 books, including A People’s History of Chicago. His work has appeared on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam. He recently won the 2018 Studs Terkel Uplifting Voices Award from Public Narrative.

The Big Draw is a charity dedicated to promoting visual literacy. It runs the world’s biggest drawing festival for all ages, aimed at getting everyone drawing — even those who think they can’t. #Play2018
