Join us as we celebrate the opening of ‘Polly Jiménez: Faces · Caras’ on Friday, September 14th! New series of paintings and drinks with the artist from 6-9pm.

Polly Jiménez of Short Stories Studio is a fine artist and illustrator from Mexico City known for her delicate, narrative-driven watercolors. Jiménez studied Fine Arts at the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México and Visual Storytelling at the School of Visual Arts in New York. In her original series ‘Faces · Caras’, Jiménez explores complex issues of cultural identity, heritage, and immigration through the lens of whimsical childhood activities. Each painting features traditional masks from different states in Mexico donned by children engaging in everyday play. These poignant vignettes celebrate the preservation of cultural heritage through the generations, while honoring the difficulty of balancing that preservation with the adoption of new homelands and societal norms. By creating imaginative scenes of contemporary youth in traditional costuming, Jiménez lends pictorial form to the knowledge that no matter where these children’s lives take them they will continue to uphold the legacy and beauty of their cultural identity.
