Raúl Ortiz: LANDscaped

@ Chicago Public Library - Lozano Branch

1805 S Loomis St, Chicago, IL 60608

Opening Tuesday, September 4th, at 4 September 2018

On view through Friday, November 23rd

Raúl Ortiz: LANDscaped is on display from September 4 to November 23, 2018 at the Chicago Public Library, Rudy Lozano Branch.

Raúl Ortiz explores painting by way of process – building up layers of pigment, random mark-making, overlapping shapes, textures, light, scale, incorporating manipulated photocopies of photographs taken on walks during travels and around town, and the use of heightened-color interactions that are derived from the tradition of abstraction. Spontaneity plays a key role in reinterpreting/reframing and updating the landscape with a contrasting contemporary twist.

Ortiz was born in Mexico (Ocampo, Guanajuato) and moved to Chicago when he was 5. He received his BFA in 2001 from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has exhibited at such venues as the University Club of Chicago, the National Museum of Mexican Art, the Old Town Art Center, the Rockford Art Museum and the Wright Museum of Art, Beloit, Wisconsin. He also was an artist-in-residence in 2005 at The Cliff Dwellers. He lives and works in Chicago.
