Tricia Van Eck is Artistic Director of 6108North, an art space that challenges what art is, whom it’s for, where it is shown, and how it is created. Named after its Edgewater mansion’s address, 6018North is also itinerant presenting shows around Chicago, nationally, and internationally, such as the critically acclaimed “Home” on Ohio St beach and “Rooting (India); The Knowledge Project” at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India, to connect Chicago artists with local and international audiences. At home or abroad, she and 6018North create unique experiences within intimate spaces, empowering artists to work together and with the public to embolden creativity and build community. 6018North recently received a Joyce Foundation grant to develop a social justice hotel on Chicago’s Southside with artist Amanda Williams. 6018North’s upcoming “Living Architecture” exhibition, co-curated with Teresa Silva and featuring Chicago’s immigrant artists, will open Labor Day as a part of Art Design Chicago, and will travel to the Cultural Center. 6018North’s large-scale Chicago Architecture Biennale partner project, the Swiss Chapuisat Brothers’ treetop jungle gym, remains on view.

Before founding 6018North, Van Eck worked 13 years as a curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago organizing more than 70 exhibitions and programs. Some notable projects include Tania Bruguera in Samuel Beckett’s “Not I”; Theaster Gates “Temple Exercises”; “Kiss” by Tino Sehgal; Jan Tichy’s “Project Cabrini Green”; and “Without You I Am Nothing: Art and Its Audience”, which featured 15 weeks of performances. Often working with undervalued media, she curated “Here/Not There”, an annual performance series, and numerous artists’ books shows. She also curated the MCA Chicago presentations of traveling exhibitions such as “Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe”; “Andy Warhol: Supernova”; as well as Mark Bradford’s exhibition and residency. A champion of Chicago artists, she co-curated (with Elizabeth Smith), “Kerry James Marshall: One True Thing”, “Meditations on Black Aesthetics” and numerous “UBS 12 x 12: New Artists/New Work” exhibitions, which showcased the work of emerging Chicago artists.

Currently, Van Eck is working with Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events to co-curate its “Year of Public Art: 50 x 50 Neighborhood Arts Project” and create the corresponding catalogue. She serves on the Board of Chicago Artists’ Coalition, Navy Pier’s Program and Guest Committee, CPS Lives, and is a mentor for Hyde Park Art’s Center, where she curated their 2015 “Front and Center” exhibition. For SAIC she is a 2019 MFA Show Guest Curator.

Parlor Room is a visiting artist program and lecture series created, run, budgeted and curated by graduate students of photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Parlor Room provokes dialogue and connections with artists, curators, thinkers and critics engaged with photography. Through public presentations, one-on-one studio visits, and informal group events with graduate students and faculty, Parlor Room seeks a diversity of thought and practice.
