Bucktown Gallery unveils the work of 23 artists in its most recent exhibition, CounterCulture: Hidden Stories of Chicago Past and Present. An opening bash featuring craft cocktails courtesy of Chicago’s very own CH Distillery will take place Friday, May 11 from 6:00-10:30 PM.

The show features two-dimensional works and films from Lisa Beard, Keannarose Cunanan, Jordyn Doyel, Anthony Folks, Brooke Garbie, Matt Geer, Megahn Griffith, Olga Guse, Beatriz Guzman Velasquez, Daniel Ibarra, P.T. Jones, Ben Klawans, Simon Lamb, Jeremy Lampkin, Jen McNulty, Jeremy Newman, Sarah Noble, Andre Pace, Jose Raya, Henry Sandifer, Amanda Taves, Tess Watson, and John Yaou. The featured work explores Chicago’s changing landscape and the resulting erasure of people, places, and ideas that were once synonymous with Chicago culture and identity. Distinct narratives emerge confronting various topics including gentrification, alternative culture, queer visibility, and censorship. The overall result being a collusion of work that celebrates the individuals who operate behind the uniform façade of chain coffee shops and luxury real estate developments and the many subcultural elements that comprise our communities.
