The Southwestern United States is strikingly bereft of water and abundant with light. The environment and ecology of the region have shaped its history forcefully and continue to determine the cultural, economic and political conditions of the Great American Desert. The assembled artists, all of Southwestern provenance or habitation, address issues of nature and environment, history and culture. We share a connection to the region as well as an explicit relationship to landscape. And we believe we are more than capable of addressing the cultural and geographic landscape of the American Southwest without resorting to cliché or succumbing to reverential awe.
Featuring the work of artists Elena Ailes, Tiana Birrell, Chris Wright Evans, Óscar I. González Díaz, Brian M. John and Max McDermott. Curated by Brian M. John.
