Chicago has a long history of queer and trans punk. From the Homocore scene of the 90s to Fed Up Fest’s last five years of punk events, queer punks have had a steady presence in the city’s music scene.

This panel discussion with musicians and organizers of Chicago’s queercore scene will focus on the struggle to be heard in a homophobic world, the successes and failures of organizing, and the future of queer and trans punk. The panel will feature organizers from Chicago’s Fed Up Fest, Or Does It Explode?, and the founders of Homocore. The event will also feature performances by:

Melanin (Chicago)

Blacker Face (Chicago)

The event will be held in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium, in the Lower Level of the Harold Washington Library Center (400 S. State St.)

This program is presented as part of the 2017-2018 One Book, One Chicago season, exploring the theme “Music: The Beat of Our City” through Greg Kot’s book I’ll Take You There.
