Workshop 4200 presents Lifted a solo exhibition of Jyl Bonaguro’s latest works, ranging from hand carved marble wing sculptures, to paper and fabric installations, multimedia video mapping and live screen printing.

Doors open at 6pm. Entrance is free with advance RSVPs. Limited street parking is available, ride sharing is recommended.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

“The marble not yet carved can hold the form of every thought the greatest artist has.” – Michelangelo

The materiality of Bonaguro’s sculptures interplays with their form, the heft of the marble in eternal juxtaposition with the weightlessness of a wing.

Following the success of her 2017 debuts at Scope, Asia Contemporary and Aqua, Bonaguro has returned to her Chicago studio to continue exploring her wings series. Curated by international curator Andrew Bridges, these new works will be seen by the public for the first time during the opening reception of Lifted.

Through the works in this exhibition, Bonaguro explores themes of transforming energies and of humanity’s inherent desire to touch the stars, wherein each of us tries to lift off from within while remaining earthbound by design.

ABOUT THE SPACE:

Founded in 2015, Workshop 4200 began as a vision of a collaborative home for all creators. Housed in the former Hammond Organ Factory, Workshop 4200 aims to keep that spirit of innovation & creativity alive today.

In 2017, we launched the gallery under the direction of designer and art historian Erin Ford, with the mission of providing a platform for the most talented and promising artists of our generation while providing an entirely unique art viewing experience for guests.
