Students and staff at Lincoln Square Pottery Studio – Learning Center funneled their worldly frustrations into clay as part of the Pottery of Protest or “POP” exhibition!

Artists have always been the canary in the coalmine when it comes to detecting society’s ills. When the masses feel helpless or angry, brushes hit the canvas or in our case, hands transform clay. Join us in the exploration of our modern existence with works dedicated to inequality, environmentalism, immigration and gun violence. Our students funneled their frustrations and gained a little Zen through sculpting, wheel throwing and exorcising their creative spirits.

Artist and Activist Julia Buck is taking a weekend away from her PhD studies at Rutgers in New Jersey to judge the studio’s show. Her background in aiding targeted immigrant workers and standing up against neo-Nazis makes her more than qualified to run a focused eye over our creations.

Join us, Saturday, March 3rd from 6-9pm, for snacks, libations and an overall sense of purpose. Open to the public and feel free to bring a snack to share.

Lincoln Square Pottery Studio – Learning Center is located at 4150 N. Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL. 60618. Street parking on Lincoln is free.

Mieke Zuiderweg and Paul Schultz will be spearheading the event. Send questions or comments to mieke@comeplaywithclay.com
