The drawings on view at Circa Modern utilize labor-intensive techniques in combination with simple materials. Reflecting on memory, texture and natural phenomena, source images are rendered ghostly through a process of repetitive mark-making, erasure and re-drawing over extended periods of time. Atomic densities appear to be in flux, as if granite and air are not really so different. Ambiguous landscape-based photographs (taken by the artist) are printed in grainy black and white, then used as models for intricate, atmospheric compositions. The low quality ink-jet prints provide as much guidance for the artist as the pictorial scenes. These drawings are meditative for the artist to produce, and aim to convey a similar experience to the viewer.
