On view through Saturday, January 13th
Join us for a screening of an excerpt from the Emmy-nominated Kartemquin film, In The Family, a documentary on the predictive nature of the familial breast cancer mutation gene (BRCA). Filmmaker, Joanna Rudnick, chronicles her own experience of testing positive for this genetic mutuation and the physical and emotional consequences that come with such knowledge. Along the way she looks at other women and families dealing with the gravity of receiving the same information.
Following the screening, a panel of experts will discuss recent advances in breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment and how these advances simultaneously reduce the risk of developing breast cancer, while also widening health disparities among those who are uninsured and medically underserved.
Panelists:
Dr. Kent Hoskins, Director, UIC’s Familial Breast Cancer Program
Dr. Anne Marie Murphy, Executive Director, Metropolitan Chicago Breast Cancer Task Force
Dr. Patricia Robinson, Assistant Professor, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Loyola University Medical Center, Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center
Gordon Quinn, Executive Producer and Cinematographer of In the Family, Founder and Artistic Director, Kartemquin Films
