This fall, Chicago Publishers Resource Center celebrates all things Zine with the exhibition Between the Staples, from November 10 through the 26.
The working class ethos in Chicago is present in our architecture and industry and embedded in our culture, right down to our independent artists and writers. For that reason CHI PRC shines a light on the hard-working creators of the zine — self-published stories and comics — who work doubly hard to make their work accessible to the public. With Between the Staples, we examine the work of zinsters from page to production, as well as the other art forms that inspire them.
Featuring:
Liz Mason manager of Quimby’s Bookstore and publisher of the zine Caboose
Jonas Cannon, author of the novel The Greatest Most Traveling Circus and publisher of the zine Cheer the Eff Up
Lb Lb, teacher by day and publisher of the zine Truckface
Bradley Adita, fire juggler, unicycler rider and publisher of the zine ADITA
Billy McCall, aka Billy the Bunny, current Baltimorian and former Chicago zinester, publisher of the zine Proof I Exist
Taryn Hipp, BMX biker from Philadelphia and publisher of the zine Lady Teeth
Dave Roche, teacher and publisher of the zine About my Disappearance
Work will include pages from exhibitor’s zines alongside their other passions (painting, design, audio/video recordings, etc). Opening reception is on Friday, November 10 at 7pm. CHIPRC will hold zine-centric events all month long to extend an opportunity to become immersed in these artists’ world. Check our website calendar for events as the exhibit runs through November 26.
