Opening Friday, October 13th, from 6PM - 11PM
On view through Saturday, October 14th
Baby Blue presents an exhibition of light installations by artists Alexandria Mento and Morgan Sims. Mento’s electric gummy-worm-like lights act as clouds, their color bleeds shifting them between discreet objects and blurs. Sims’ scraggly neon lights scrawl down the wall or collapse in a pile. Both artists bring a sense of playfulness towards abstraction and extension of painting into installation and light art. The exhibition walls become a canvas and the electric light its mark.
Alexandria Mento (b. 1989) is a visual artist from
Philadelphia, PA, currently living in New Haven, CT. She received her BFA from Tyler School of Art in Sculpture and Painting and is currently pursuing her MFA at Yale School of Art. Recent shows include ArtSpace, New Haven, and VSOP Projects, Greenport.
Morgan Sims is a Chicago-based artist. He holds his MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and BFA from the University of Washington, Seattle. In Chicago he has neon currently featured at The Empty Bottle and Lubinski Furniture. He has a third solo show with Bert Green Fine Art coming up in November. He teaches locally at Elmhurst College and Spudnik Press, and will be teaching next year at the University of Puget Sound. See more of his work at www.morgan-sims.com.
