Join Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Shuli Eshel and Roger Schatz as we explore Maxwell Street history through a film screening, reading and storytelling.

Join us for a screening of Maxwell Street: A Living Memory, The Jewish Experience in Chicago, a documentary showcasing Maxwell Street Market through the memories of the children and grandchildren of the Eastern European Jewish immigrants who built it. Filmmaker and author, Shuli Eshel, and her co-author, Roger Schatz, of Jewish Maxwell Street Stories, will share some of the unique memories collected and featured in their book. The program continues the museum’s exploration of Maxwell Street history and neighborhoods, as a part of our Making the West Side initiative.

Making the West Side: Community Conversations on Neighborhood Change is a multi-year project funded through the National Endowment for the Humanities that brings together scholars, activists, neighborhood residents, and other stakeholders to investigate the history of neighborhood change on Chicago’s West Side and connect those histories to contemporary issues and concerns.
