Understanding Indigenous Roots: An Intercultural Discourse (Part II)
@ South Side Community Art Center
3831 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60653
Opening Sunday, October 15th, from 3PM - 5PM
An African Proverb states “It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten.” Join the Southside Community Art Center, in collaboration with the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian in a conversation with Native Americans and African Americans as we examine and share unique histories and unifying connections-some new, well-known, and others long forgotten. Individuals from local neighborhoods and communities-at-large are invited to learn about the implications of African Americans’ passage to the United States, world-wide contributions and ethnic tribulations; and the Native Peoples’ presumption of ownership, community pride and intra-tribal challenges. Audiences are sure to be enlightened, connected and motivated to learn more about the vital impact and cross-cultural implications for these cultures as well as their own.
This program is a part of the Chicago Cultural Alliance’s Inherit Chicago. Inherit Chicago is a city wide festival of art, ideas and performance at neighborhood heritage musuems and cultural centers. Head to InheritChicago.org for a full list of events!
