Snow City Arts inspires and educates children and youth in hospitals through the arts. For a child, being in the hospital can be overwhelming, frightening, lonely or boring. In a place where children have little control, Snow City Arts’ award-winning program lets them choose to paint, draw, make music or a film, write poetry or perform a play. They pick the topic, and our trained artists help them create art and learn art technique, theory and history. Snow City arts turns a hospital room into a working artist’s studio.
Our annual event, Gallery Night, represents a culminating moment for all of our students to share their work in a professionally-curated, public exhibit. The work of more than 150 students will be on display for all of our supporters to enjoy. Gallery Night 2017 will take place on September 8th, 2017 at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Ballroom. This year’s theme, A Balloon on the Moon, comes from one of our student’s creative writing pieces. 100% of the proceeds raised from the event will help make it possible for professional artists to work alongside children in the hospital. In attendance will be about 350 informed and active Snow City Arts patrons, including healthcare professionals, business leaders, educators, and artists, as well as students and their families.
