Horses two presents its premiere Chicago exhibition, ‘The Silent Singers’ featuring works by Alec Dolter (Dubuque IA), Elise Hanson (New York, NY), and Claire Redman (Los Angeles, CA)

In the fall of 2015 on a work trip to Office Depot I saw in line a woman in a windbreaker with the words ‘The Silent Singers’ on the back in script font. For a while I appreciated the beauty of the phrase, imagined some muted choir. Months later I found the group online, “a deaf awareness group that promotes the beauty of sign language through music.” Dismantling my illusion Illuminated some new beauty, an unforeseen and strange fold of reality.

In the face of overwhelming historical and cultural precedent, the act of painting can be forced to fight or flight mechanisms. These three painters manage another seemingly unviable path into strange poetics mixing the language of painting with the vast and blurring language of common contemporary images and symbols.

Horses two is a mobile three walled space carved into the trunk of a 2000 Yukon XL exhibiting contemporary artists mostly in Chicago IL. The Silent Singers opens Saturday July 15th 7-10pm outside of Produce Model Gallery, 1007 W 19th St Chicago, IL, in coordination with ‘Retrato de Malinalli con Fruta Temporal,’ an exhibition featuring works by Galia Basail-Mulcahy and and André Filipek
